A small craft business that first set up shop in Montreal’s Outremont district in 1983, Le Glacier Bilboquet soon became known for the quality of its home-made ice creams and sorbets. In 2007, more than 20 years after opening on Bernard Street, Le Bilboquet inaugurated its first franchise in Westmount.

A few years later, Le Glacier Bilboquet also had our firm develop a prototype for Carrefour Laval, which could later be repeated easily elsewhere, in other shopping centres.

The kiosk had to have a minimal ground footprint, just 18 square metres (3m x 6m). The counter, with a base consisting of small cavities, recalls the ruffled look of a cone. Cavity interiors are of various colours, evoking the many Bilboquet flavours. The Russian plywood base, left in its natural hue, is topped by a raspberry-coloured quartz counter, another reminder of the theme.

With its colourful, contemporary look, the kiosk was designed to catch the eyes of passersby and encourage them to be tempted not just by a tasty treat but also by visual pleasure.
